| The school offers students
a wide range of club activities appropriate
to their age. Joining a club is one of the
many ways in which we seek to encourage students
to pursue areas of personal interest.
Nature Club
The Nature Club aims at inculcating an appreciation of nature among students and encouraging them to participate in a variety of conservation initiatives. Its efforts include inviting leading environmentalists to the school to talk to students and sensitize them to the opportunities and challenges in addressing environmental issues, organising an annual tree-planting day, and participating in important nature-oriented programmes.
DAIMUN
Dhirubhai Ambani International Model United Nations (DAIMUN) is a student-run conference that aims to simulate the workings of the United Nations. Just in two years of its launch, in 2006 DAIMUN became an affiliate of The Hague International Model United Nations (THIMUN). This was a remarkable milestone as ours was the first school from India and the whole of South Asia to receive this prestigious affiliation. Our students have participated in THIMUN Conference at The Hague and Singapore, BEIMUN at Beijing, SPIMUN at St. Petersburg and other affiliated conferences.
What was started in 2004 as a small initiative with participation of less than 100 students from DAIS, the conference has grown splendidly over the years. From 2005, we have had participants from schools across Mumbai and since 2007 students from schools all over India started attending. And, for the first time, in the 2011 conference we will have participation from two international schools from abroad, with the total number of participants reaching about 600. In 2007, Aditya Jhaveri, one of our students received the rare privilege of being appointed the President of General Assembly at THIMUN Conference at The Hague.
MUN provides students the opportunity to
develop their communication skills and confidence,
the chance to know the nuances of negotiating,
their ability to listen to other’s point
of view and the forthrightness to choose to
agree or disagree based on their conviction
and context. They realize through experiential
learning that through the process of constructive
debate today, they can solve the problems
of tomorrow, creatively and confidently.
Given the very nature of the DAIMUN conference,
calling for diversity of knowledge, the capacity
to articulate and appreciate different viewpoints
and the confidence to express, every year
there is a panel discussion joined by dignitaries
from many walks of life – political
leaders, media experts, film personalities,
business leaders, diplomatic personnel, civic
administrators, religious leaders, renowned
writers, and so on. Anti-corruption, sustainable
energy and terrorism were some of the topics
covered in the previous DAIMUN conferences.
The Annual DAIMUN Conference 2007 was graced
by Ms. Barkha Dutt, Journalist; Shri N K Singh,
Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission, Govt.
of Bihar; Mr. Nitin Desai, Ex-Under Secretary

former Ambassador / Permanent Representative
of India to UN.
The theme of the Annual DAIMUN Conference 2008 was ‘International Human Rights Violation’ and Shri Arnab Goswami, Editor of Times Now was the Chief Guest. Round Square (South Asia and Gulf Region) has adopted this theme as one of their internationalism, democracy and leadership projects.

The 2011 annual DAIMUN Conference will deliberate on the issue of religious divide and will have an eminent panel representing different religious communities participating in it.
PAIGAAM
'Paigaam', a peace conference organised by our students, typically in July every year in Mumbai, seeks to build harmonious relationships through the exchange of ideas and fact-based debate in the spirit of openness and mutual response. In 2009, the Round Square (South Asia and Gulf Region) has adopted 'Paigaam' as a project on conflict resolution at the regional level.
In 2011, 54 students from five Round Square schools in India and Bangladesh participated. It is with this aim of bringing the nations closer together in recognition of the bond that we have and will always continue to share, that DAIS students have created Paigaam. The conference aims to understand the causes and effects of past controversies; stimulate an exchange of ideas amongst the youngsters; encourage healthy debate; promote teamwork; break down all stereotyping and prejudice; and, most importantly, build long lasting relationships with people from across the border.
