How clean is the water in
our Swimming Pools?" - didn't we always
want to know that?? "How safe are the
electronic gadgets we use?" - don't we
always wonder about that?? "Which bottles
water is the best one in the market?"
- these are some of the issues that the students
of the Secondary section of the Dhirubhai
Ambani International School, dabbled about
for the last 2 months…to satisfy theirs
and everyone's curiosity. They reached a logical
and scientific answer - and that was what
was put up in the displays of the spectacular
"Science Fair" - exhibited in the
School grounds on the 5th of August, 2006.
All schools probably have a Science fair.
Well, DAIS did too - with a difference. The
students underwent the "scientific process"-
they wondered, they hypothesized about an
unknown fact of our world and tried to unravel
it "scientifically" - through the
process of "Investigation". They
searched for variants and observed how they
varied with changing conditions - they evaluated
the results and made valid conclusions. The
results were an extraordinary display of facts,
information and knowledge.
The Science Fair participants were students
of the school ranging from the Year 7 to the
Year 10 level. The preliminary rounds of exhibits
were examined and judged by the different
Science teachers at the various levels- to
select some of the best ones to be displayed
on the final day of the Fair. There were pre-determined
criteria for judging, based on the judgment
and experience of the different teachers.
This created an overall sense of unanimity
throughout the selection process and the final
displays all seemed to be of the same pattern
and trend.
The selected ones were displayed in the school
Auditorium; students displayed their results
on Poster Boards - very creatively and ingeniously.
Parents of ALL students were invited on the
final day to view and appreciate the students
work; it was indeed a pleasure to observe
the uniquely different displays and hear the
students explain their work thoroughly and
sincerely. The Science teachers went through
a final round of judging on this day too -
to select the 3 best ones for every class.
All students were rewarded for their hard
work and efforts with a Merit Certificate
- and the selected ones were given a special
recognition. Their entries were now selected
to be sent for the "Intel Science Contest"
for students.
Here are some of the entries displayed
on the final day of the Science Fair :
