INTEGRATION PROGRAMME

In April of 2005 the students of standard 7 presented their Integration programme. This interactive, enhanced learning, interdisciplinary plan allowed the students to explore the 'bigger idea'- Sound in various subjects, both academic and non-academic. This month long exploration culminated in a beautiful stage performance and exhibition.

Integration acted like a reinforcement tool where students exhibited their knowledge, talent, confidence and teamwork. The stage performance began with the recitation of a poem written by a student, followed by the yoga performance. There were performances also in taekwando, judo, history and English. In English some of the poems written by the students were dramatized and finally there was the play in Hindi, highlighting noise pollution.

The displays in the stalls of various subjects helped students recognize the links between their learning and real life contexts. They connected 'sound' by studying the different kinds of sound pollution, animal sounds and onomatopoeic sounds in English poetry. They also wrote their own poetry, recited and illustrated it as a homework and class activity. They studied the history of sound in music and computers. In Maths they learnt to graph the different sound frequencies, which were studied in detail in science.

Parents could not help but get infused by the enthusiasm displayed by the 7 graders. Pride in their children's achievement was visible in the appreciation expressed in the feedback forms.

In short, the month of integrated learning was a complete experience of meaningful, relevant and enjoyable learning for our students.
