| Patalganga
Trip - 15th and 16th April 2005
As scheduled the children assembled at the
school at 8.00 a.m. and boarded the buses
to Patalganga. After being met enroute by
Mr. Dilip Abhyankar, we were directed to Kinston
House and disembarked at 10.30.a.m. The children
were then directed to their rooms with their
respective teachers in charge.
In the afternoon after a sumptuous lunch
the children were taken to the plant where
they first viewed an Audio -Visual presentation
'The journey has just begun ', where the children
gained an insight into the humble beginnings
of Shri Dhirubhai Ambani and how he turned
his dreams into a reality. The next presentation
was titled 'The Black Monday' about the flash
floods at Patalganga. The children appreciated
the quick action taken by the employees of
the plant, which prevented any loss of lives.
They also viewed how the spirit of teamwork
enabled them to normalize the working of the
plant in record time in spite of the massive
damage caused by the floodwaters. They were
then taken around the plant and learnt how
the polyester yarn was made, how it was checked
for any defects and finally it was packed
into boxes, ready to be dispatched to their
respective destinations. They also went to
the RTC and saw how the different plastic
moulded bottles were being made.
The next day after breakfast they left for
the Yusuf Mehar Ali Centre about 45 mins away.
Here the children were taken around a nature
trail where they saw different types of ornamental
plants, medicinal plants along with the fruit
bearing ones. They then went around the pottery
section where they were fascinated by the
skill and artistry of the potter who demonstrated
for them. They went around the soap-making
unit as well and appreciated the purity of
these products. Before leaving the children
thanked Mr. Abhyankar and the team for their
well-coordinated efforts as they realized
that this wouldn't have been possible without
their help.
