Kala Ghoda Arts Festival - Kala Ghoda Art Project

The Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, a community celebration of the arts together with the celebration of the historic precincts of Mumbai, is holding an art display on the pavements of the Kala Ghoda district, through the festival from 4th - 12th February 2006. As part of this festival, the association wants to include works done by children on canvas, and for this purpose, they invited a few schools in Mumbai to take part in the art project. Our school was invited to participate on Saturday 28 January 2006. Around 40 primary children, together with their two art teachers reached the Kala Ghoda district by 08:30 a.m. What happened there, the experiences of the children who participated, will now be expressed by these children in their own words.

"My experience at the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival was wonderful. We got to paint 'Dreams' on a canvas. My partner was Siya and we did a lovely job. We drew a waterfall, with a rock, and on it was a mermaid. Next to her, there was a huge tree with a house under it. After painting, we went for lunch at Bombay Blue. Our painting's name was 'Alore Mermaid!'

"Going to Kalaghoda Mumbai Festival was a very interesting experience. My partner Aaliyah and I painted a unicorn. I felt like a real artist painting on a canvas."

"I went to the Kalaghoda for the Mumabi festival. It was on Saturday the 28th of Jan. While we were painting, my art teacher came and called out a few names. When we were walking down the corridor I was scared. 'Had I done something wrong?' I was shocked and relieved when she told us we were chosen to paint on a canvas.

I reached by 08:30 a.m. My partner was Feryl. The topic was Dreams. I remembered the nightmare I had the day before. The heading was 'The Hurricane'. My partner and I thought of many things. We liked our painting very much. I hope I get a chance again." - Saumya III B

"On the day of the Art Fair, I was very excited. When I reached, there were two other schools and when they took us there I was amazed to see the canvas. My partner was Mallika and our topic was Dreams and we drew an amazing scenery. We drew a chocolate waterfall, a gold house and a fire hill. It was such an amazing experience. The name of our painting 'Unusual Fantasies!' -

"We reached Kalaghoda, and all my friends were already there. My sister and I had gone together. I was very excited. My partner was Srinandini. Our topic was a dream. Nini and I decided to draw a Unicorn. When we got our canvas and paints and had to start painting, I got butterflies in my stomach. At first our drawing didn't look very nice but as we began to finish it, it looked real nice and colourful. We finished it in one hour. I hope someone will soon buy it."

Heaven -
Heaven was my topic
for the Kala Ghoda Fair.
Leah and I drew dolphins
which didn't have any hair.

I really enjoyed the fair
because I feel it was a
very good experience,
to finally paint on canvas
after watching my mother do
so many canvas paintings.
And I was really happy
we were going to Bombay Blues for lunch.

"I LOVED IT."
