INTEGRATION
PROGRAMME CLASS V |
For the students of Std V,
the theme for the integration programme was
myths and legends. Children researched and
discovered the myths and legends from across
the world and applied it to their curriculum.
The interdependence of nature and the abiotic
elements in nature were explored through a
Chinese myth and its feared dragons. As a
part of their English curriculum the skit
on Shiva took on a thematic approach to myths
and legends. Myths have influenced Hindi and
English literature and allied arts from the
earliest time. Through this medium children
explored the origins of the traditional dance
forms like the Raudra Ras of the Ganas . Yoga
students took up the challenge of investigating
urban myths like levitating, lowering the
heart -rate and being buried in the sand.
Through the Marathi performance, the children
re-created the fable of the hare and the tortoise
and how the wisdom of the ages is passed down
from generation to generation.
The stalls took over where the performances
left off. The Fibonacci sequence, the Divine
proportion (PHI) and a survey of 5 evil mythical
had the children on their feet and making
graphs. The story of the legendary hero Gilgamesh
of Mesopotamia had cuneiform tablets taking
the spectators on a journey through time.
Through stories of animal legends and geographical
myths the children came up with strange and
interesting information . The Art and Drama
department created a fantasy with brilliant
illustrations of well-known mythical creatures.
The well-known stories of Vikram and Vetal
(the wily corpse and famous king ) were enacted
and children also wrote stories based on the
moral lessons from these tales of yore.
