In context:

  • These figures rank us undoubtedly among the top few schools in the world;

  • Leading universities demand a minimum of 36 points from applicants. As indicated above, our average is a bit above that, and 63% of our students achieved higher totals!

  • Out of the 23 subject areas entered by our students, in 21 subject areas our school is way ahead of the world averages. To highlight a few:

    • DAIS average grade in Business and Management SL is 6.11 (world average 4.77)

    • DAIS average grade in Biology SL is 6.00 (world average 4.23)

    • DAIS average grade in Chemistry HL is 6.03 (world average 4.72)

    • DAIS average grade in Environmental Systems is 6.13 (world average 4.42)

In May 2006, 74443 candidates were entered worldwide. Of these:

  • 32130 were IB Diploma candidates, of whom 80% were successful;

  • The remaining 42313 candidates, comprising 57% internationally, earned IB Certificates (as opposed to 6% for DAIS);

  • The IB Certificate is accepted for placement at all universities in the USA and at many in other areas of the world;

  • The main differences for a Diploma (which are not requirements for Certificates) are set criteria regarding scores for HL subjects and total, and compulsory completion and evaluation of Creativity, Action and Service, as well as Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay requirements. All of our students completed the central elements required for the Diploma, which are what make it so demanding a programme. The same rigorous academic standards apply to the assessment of subjects studied for Certificates;

  • Internationally, only 66 candidates out of 74443 scored the maximum possible 45 points, constituting 0.09% of the total entry - a highly select group, within the very demanding IB Diploma setting! It is a source of tremendous pride that 2 of them were DAIS graduates, which represents 2.46% of our students who took the examinations.
