Geography
trip to Goa 28th April to 30th April |
Batch 1 & 2 geography students of 9B/C,
5 IB students, along with concerned faculty
members left for Goa on the 28th morning at
5 a.m. We were in Goa by 6a.m. and reached
the hotel by 8a.m. After breakfast, we all
went to the Arpora beach in Baga, Goa to survey
the area that had to be studied.
The students were divided into 3 groups.
Each group had a leader and a timekeeper.
The rest of the day was spent in the hotel
with each group working on their experiments,
and questionnaires. In the evening, at 4.30
p.m., we went back to the beach to start the
first round of experiments. The students had
to measure the longshore drift, wave frequency,
windspeed & direction, beach length &gradient
and talk to the locals, tourists and fishermen
to get an idea of the human activities and
also to figure out how the beach was being
used as a resource.
We worked at the beach on the 29th for 2
hours in the morning and 3 hours in the evening.
After dinner on the 2nd day, all the 3 groups
gave a presentation on their respective findings
and analysis. This was one of the most exciting
part of the tour. On the last day we went
to the cliff in the morning for the last of
the trip.
At the cliff, the students measured the cliff
height, observed the rock arrangements and
also noticed the different forms of erosion
and erosional features.
Finally, at 1pm on the 30th after lunch we
left for the airport to board the flight to
Mumbai.
