Earth Day Celebration At Dhirubhai Ambani International School

While the world was waiting to celebrate the Earth day on 22nd April, students of Classes 1 to 4 of Dhirubhai Ambani International School had already started the process much earlier.

Preparations for the Event started with Classes 1 to 4 excitedly making recycled newspaper bags, bottles and badges which they proudly wore to School on the 21st.

The dawn of 21st April saw all the primary children troop into school purposefully. They had a task to complete, a mission to fulfill. They had made a promise to save their planet, in their own small way. The school wore a celebrated look with the gate arch made by the children of LKG and UKG during their art classes. The arch symbolized the earth's polluted side as well as the green side. The banner shouted a question to every visitor, making you stop and think, ------- "Which side, you decide?"

FChildren arrived at school dressed in earthy coloured clothes, reflecting their dream of seeing a brighter and more colourful planet.

They were introduced to the current issue of Global Warming by the children of the Primary Nature Club. This was followed by two movies that depicted the sorry state of the earth's environment and predictions for the bleak future. The movies offered solutions for a better tomorrow.

Children then took a pledge to make everyday an Earth day and every action into the one that will help save the Environment.

Their first step was to plant a sapling in their recycled 'pots'. The 'pots' were made from used mineral water bottles, previously decorated by the students in their art classes. They then took part in exciting quiz competitions, related to the environment. It was indeed very heartening to see children, this young, so aware of their environment.

Next, followed the 3 R's - Reduce, Reuse & Recycle -
The students of Classes 1 and 2 made beautiful products like pencil stands from used paint boxes, and photo frames from used cardboard cartons.

The students of Classes 3 and 4 made Posters sending out messages to one and all on ways to save our Mother Earth. These will be exhibited on the ground floor for others to watch and emulate.

All the students went back home feeling extremely satisfied and happy at having spent a fruitful morning in school, sending out an important message to the people around - "If we can do it, so can you!"
