Mumbai, 7th November 2008:
University of Cambridge International Examinations
(CIE) today congratulated the toppers in India
with the first ever 'Brilliance in India'
awards for achieving impressive results in
the IGCSE 2008 examination. Students at Dhirubhai
Ambani International School topped nationally,
across eleven IGCSEs in the June 2008 session.
National topper Jesika Haria achieved five
'Top in India subject awards' plus a special
award for gaining the highest mark in India
over 6 Cambridge IGCSE examinations.
Global topper Gaurang Vimal Poddar, an IGCSE
student from Dhirubhai Ambani School, gained
top marks in the world for Physical Education
and Mathematics.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Mr.
Ian Chambers, Region Manager South Asia, CIE
said, "The success of students at Dhirubhai
Ambani International School in their IGCSE
examinations is outstanding. Students across
India typically transfer very well to Cambridge
IGCSEs and benefit from the range of skills
they assess including analysis and evaluation
as well as knowledge. The Cambridge IGCSE
is India's, and the world's, most popular
international examination for 14-16 year olds.
Students enjoy the application based curriculum
which leans heavily on student-centredness
and is truly international in its dimension,
yet can be taught through the use of local
case studies which ensure children see the
relevance of the concepts they learn."
Over the years Indian students have done
exceptionally well in IGCSE examinations and
achieved high scores. The Cambridge philosophy
is to develop syllabuses which allow students
to become independent learners, to equip them
with the skills to continue to learn throughout
their education and working life.
Commenting on the outstanding results achieved
by the students of Dhirubhai Ambani International
School in the IGCSE examinations held in June
2008, Smt Nita M. Ambani, Chairperson,
said:
"Over the last three years our
IGCSE students have delivered outstanding
results developing a consistent track record.
This year we have the distinction of a world
topper in two subjects and four students scores
the highest aggregate across nine subjects
nationally including one being adjudged the
Best Student in India.
The children have worked hard with
dedication and my heartiest congratulations
to each one of them and their proud parents!
At the heart of this remarkable feat
is the exemplary devotion of our teachers
and the pivotal role that parents have played
in contributing to the achievements of the
children."
