ABOUT US

What is DAIMUN?

DAIMUN 2006, the third annual DAIMUN conference aims to emulate the high standards set by its predecessors. This year’s secretariat reflects the superlative quality of debate we hope to continue at this year’s conference, as its members include former delegates of HMUN, THIMUN and BEIMUN. The Secretary General, Aditya Jhaveri has even chaired the Security Council at the inaugural THIMUN Singapore conference of 2005. The structure of the conference this year closely resembles that of The Hague International Model United Nations (THIMUN). The Conference is managed and chaired wholly by the student body from the higher sections of the Dhirubhai Ambani International School, an IB World School that is one of the premier educational institutions in the country. The Dhirubhai Ambani International Model United Nations is the instrument we hope participants will use to demonstrate the truth behind the words "Confer. Challenge. Conquer. Reality is yours."

Our Objectives

The Dhirubhai Ambani International Model United Nations is based on the fundamental ideals of diplomacy, equality and self-expression. It is these ideals, carried forth by the enthusiasm and rigor of the youth, which serve to form the base for our Model United Nations. A truly committed delegate will always leave the conference with a further enhanced sense of confidence, a greater comprehension of our world as an integral whole, and sharpened debating skills. Model United Nations is more than simply just debate; it is a simulation of the world's largest international and most important multilateral organisation. The United Nations is not simply political, economic, social or humanitarian. Instead, it is an intricately woven tapestry of global issues, ethics and ideals. According to the United Nations Charter, The United Nations is "a centre for harmonising the actions of nations." DAIMUN strives to uphold this same standard of excellence and to thus continue this noble intention.

Why Mumbai?

Mumbai is a cluster of Seven Islands on the West coast of India. It is a city that is not bound by a time frame; it throbs day and night, generating 40% of India’s GDP. From the phalanx of office blocks clustered on Nariman Point, Maharashtra's Manhattan, to the expensively dressed teenagers posing in Colaba's trendiest nightspots; Mumbai is cosmopolitan to its core. Besides being host to dazzling shopping arcades, exciting sport activity, discotheques and gourmet restaurants, Mumbai is also the educational hub of Asia. Colleges and universities of world renown are located here. English is the language of instructions in all schools and is one of the widely spoken street languages along with Hindi and Marathi. International delegates will therefore find no trouble communicating with the local habitants. Mumbai represents an exciting adventure for all.
